Are you up to date with digital marketing? This is a very simple, yet loaded question. If you feel you are chances are you are lying to yourself, or there’s much you aren’t even aware of. I personally spend one to two hours daily trying to keep up and find it a challenge at times.
Which are the top digital marketing mistakes that a business must avoid? I’ve been blogging recently about the digital marketing mistakes brands and companies often make online, either because they’re in too much of a hurry to get things done, or due to sheer ignorance.

11- Not Being Informed
There is so much information online about digital marketing in general and specifically for each individual discipline (SEM, SEM, content, social, email, UX, analytics, video…). I personally scan new content from over 200 sources every day to (try to) stay up to date.
The information, the education, the case studies, they’re all out there, free for the taking, if you take time for it.
If you’re wondering who to read or connect to in any particular field, ask me and I’ll share who it is I follow. Digital marketing is very broad. There are tons of experts in every specific field. Perform your own search on Google, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and anywhere you like to spend time online for top experts and news sources that like to share their know-how.
You need a mix of both news and independent experts in digital marketing. The news outlets will let you know the broad news and overall implications but rarely do they do a deep dive or answer questions that are meaningful for your organization. However, some experts are generous with their time online and will share tremendous knowledge and how-to articles. It will likely do more for you to frame the issues in a way you can relate them to your own brand, in a way you can do something about it.
When you find sources that stimulate you not only to learn but to put things into practice, they become your most valuable.
Staying up to date takes time, time you need to take. Take it where you can on your commute, over lunch, before going to bed, or instead of reading the city news which don’t necessarily help you be better at your job.
